Steven Pecchia-Bekkum learned to make films the old fashioned way, by watching Mel Jass’ Matinee Movie show on WTCN Channel 11 while growing up in Bloomington, Minnesota (just like the Coen Brothers). Only later did he supplement his filmmaking knowledge by taking classes at Film in the Cities in St. Paul, earning Associate degrees in both filmmaking and video production at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, and a Masters in Fine Arts degree in Film Production at the University of Utah. He ran the equipment facilities, setting up editing suites and repairing production gear, for the Film and Video Program at Minneapolis Community and Technical College for five years before heading out to Salt Lake City for Graduate School.

These days he teaches Traditional Animation classes and Sound Production classes, as well as the occasional Film Production I and Simpsons to South Park class, at the University of Utah. He is currently writing a textbook on film history and aesthetics.
