Participate in 100 Years of Filmmaking

On the set of The Searchers (1956) / Warner Bros.

In 2024, it will be 100 years since the first film was shot in Utah, and also the 50th anniversary of the Utah Film Commission. In celebration, the year will be filled with exhibits, events, and film screenings, many of which students can participate in.

First is the FOCUS on the fUTure Film Festival, specifically for the next generation of Utah filmmakers. The festival is open to students or recent graduates of Utah universities, as well as any Utah resident 18-25 years of age. Submissions will be accepted now through October 1, 2024. Films must be made in Utah, have a runtime of 25 minutes or less, and be made in 2022 or later. Submission fees start at $5. Find more information on Film Freeway.

Students can also volunteer for the Utah Film Commission’s exhibition Opening Night Reception at the State Capitol. Sign up to volunteer here.

Other screenings and events will be announced on the Utah Film Commission’s website.
