Announcing the F&MAD Fest 2020 Lineup!

This Saturday, October 17th, the Department of Film & Media Arts will present the 10th annual F&MAD Film Festival, a public screening of student works from undergraduate and graduate film students at the U. This year, the festival will be held as a drive-in movie event. Find more info and RSVP here

Each short film submission is under 25 minutes long, allowing the program to include around 10 films per festival. For student film makers, F&MAD Fest is an opportunity to show off their hard work among a community of film-lovers, and to compete for the title of “Best of Fest.” The audience awards voting is one of the most exciting aspects of the festival and allows the crowd to vote for their favorite film of the evening.  

Student Film Submissions are anonymously screened by a jury who casts the deciding votes on which films will make it to the big screen. This year we have eleven incredible films in the lineup:

A blue creature attempts to take care of a sad baby bear. 



Sugar BabySugar Baby

Director: Leila Salari | 3:05
A daring sex worker that doesn’t sell herself short makes a visit to her sugar daddy when the night takes a turn for the worst.



Living MoneylessLiving Moneyless

Director: Beth Kearsley | 10:18
After years of struggling to find balance, Daniel Suelo began living without money in the year 2000. In this short documentary film, Suelo shares his journey and his philosophical beliefs regarding a moneyless world.

Emmey brings an old projector home from a garage sale and finds that some films watch you back.

In the wake of a personal theft, a woman goes on the hunt to retrieve her missing item.

Turtle is a short documentary about Pamela Cornejo, a first-generation Ph.D. student at the University of Utah in Counseling Psychology. The film follows Pamela as she reflects on her immigrant family and how they influence who and where she is today. 



Director: McKenzie Smith | 4:51
A film about what it’s like to be young and scared and desperate. To love harder than you’ve ever loved before and to be terrified of how quickly time passes.
