Photographs & Talk with Photojournalist Chris Chew

Chris Chew is an international photojournalist and photographer whose latest project documents the current state of Chinese Street Opera in Singapore. The event will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2017, from 3:15-4:15pm in the Marriott Library, Room 1140.

Chris will talk about her work photographing three street troupes: one professional, one amateur, and one from a cultural society. Many of the stories of these troupes perform feature strong female roles and gender-bending actors. Although Chinese Street Opera is a vanishing art form, amateur troupes are trying to preserve the art through the modernization of its language while still playing tribute to their culture.
